Recently arrived at what will be my digs for the next year, and if I'm honest I'm a little underwhelmed. There doesn't appear to be any heating in the house, and when we have reported it to Frank, the groundskeeper, we are duly met with promises that something will be done, although of course nothing has been done yet. Also, the prospectus mentioned that Devonshire was one of the most musical of all the Uni halls - there are only 2 pianos near the admin offices and one of them is out of tune.
Leeds is a pleasant enough place with several cheap places to eat and get drunk, which I'm guessing are the two universal preserves of students. We have received welcome information packs and are told that there is an informal JCR meeting this evening. It's a good opportunity to meet not only the other people in my house but also the other houses and flats along Cumberland Road. The JCR lounge also has an in-house bar which will be useful for saving some lengthy walks into town. Upstairs in the complex, there is table football, two pool tables, a dartboard, and a projector screen with cable TV. One of the most surreal things I have ever seen in my life is the sight of sixty or so undergrads watching The Simpsons in near silence.
The others from my house are David, (who shares room 5 with me) Craig and Pricey, (room 1) Chris, (room 3) Will, (room 4) Ahmed, (room 6) Maria, (room 7) Jenny and Amy, (room 8) Katrina and Liz, (room 9) and Vicky and Katherine. (room 10) Some other guys in Ridgeway House over the road I have gotten to know are Tim and Phil, James, Adonis, Ellie, Rina, Rachel, Emily and Marc.
