jubella

That I could change my ridiculous MySpace name to something more professional. Any ideas on how to do it? (No, 'edit profile' won't work because this here's a band page, not a personal page.)

collection of thoughts

you say you care so much.
then nod along with the rest of them.
a paperhead with mawkish pretend emotion.
you'll never understand
electron orbits or semiotics
because you are content with your fucking ipod, reality tv and entrenching yourself.
this puzzles me because all the time
YOU PREACH ABOUT EXTENDING HORIZONS.
could we please erase all hypocrisy in the world.
you know what i'm talking about?
the freaks who still advocate feminism
let's have a look at what feminism has achieved
"all men should be castrated/shot/fed to lions."
"all men should do equal housework and cooking."
oh nooooo: why are there no red-blooded men now?
the animal rights terrorists (silent witness was great)
let's blow up laboratories so they can't do research
and liberate cute fluffy things
and stop all senses of research indefinitely
wouldn't that be a towering achievement?
then we would have no new cures for diseases
but when you die of cancer, pulmonary fibrosis or motor neurone disease, IT'S A TRAGEDY.
it is irritating because nobody stops to think logically.
wouldn't it be so much easier to become a sheep?
baa baa baa, i agree. baa baa.
or maybe we could just jump into a discussion about the Lebanon and Israel conflict
offering our watered-down popularized thoughts as if they were somehow important
when this has been going on for 70 odd years
do you really think you have all the facts sorted?
baa baa baa. there it is again.
sleepwalking into incoherent diplomatic lines and political correctness
because you cannot think for yourself. go on, talk in cliches.
"the oxygen of publicity" (you say it like publicity is a good thing)
"i am different to most others" (as if)
"my friends mean more to me than anything" (little more original next time)
ahhh diddums.
hang on, i'm getting something:
the unshakable impression we are a lost generation

vide cor meum

E pensando di lei
Mi sopragiunse uno soave sonno

Ego dominus tuus
Vide cor tuum
E d'esto core ardendo
Cor tuum
(Chorus: Lei paventosa)
Umilmente pascea.
Appreso gir lo ne vedea piangendo.

La letizia si convertia
In amarissimo pianto

Io sono in pace
Cor meum
Io sono in pace
Vide cor meum

something for nothing

On the last day of last month the poker server crashed, and experienced ongoing problems. I managed to sit down at a table having 'bought' £69.92 worth of chips, but the site then crashed again. The software thought that I was playing at the table when I wasn't, and in fact I could only watch on as 10 other players filled the table up. When I told Will Hill about it, they did a manual refund for £68. I rang up and inquired about the rest because I'm really tight, and some guy on the other end told me that somebody would check it out and refund the other £1.92. They must've had some breakdown in communication at their end though, because their technical department managed to refund me another £69.92 worth of chips! Who says you can't get something for nothing.

quartz

14 out of 18 pieces are completed and ready to go.

When the last 4 are finished I will go to the printers/binders and get 3 master copies of the full score plus all necessary copies for each individual part.

The first 8 pieces come to 109 pages, so all in all there will be a lot of dead trees after I'm done.

If you live in the South London area and want to audition for my production then drop me a message. Certain performing slots have already been filled.

Fish? What's that?

Well, well what shall I say, it has been a long week, not so busy at good old Deutsche Bank. Carla and Su were talking and they said that it’s OK for me to take 3 weeks off so I can start to revise for my resits in August.

I’m planning to work there for the whole of September, so another month of bankroll boosting wahaayy! But it’s also good to get more office experience. The longest time I had work experience at one company was only 2 weeks. I’ve worked here for nearly a month!

Took a big hit at Gutshot on Wednesday night, playing on the £25-50 table. The last 2 rounds were the worst. Got A-Q, guy raises pot, I call along with another. Flop is A-x-x. I’m all in, turn, then river is a K. Raiser shows KK, caught his trips. The other round? Js-6s. There’s a £1 minimum raise and everyone calls. I get top 2 pair, go all in again. 2 callers. River is a Q. The same guy rivers me with his 3 ladies. In fairness, both rounds I was behind pre flop.

not bad for a £50 investment

the enigma

It seems I'm not the only person obssessed with the number 23. Jim Carrey told People Magazine how he was fixated on the number for years. Here's a page from Wikipedia.

the greatest place

There aren't many places where I can honestly say I've felt so many different emotions, but this is one of them.

Here I've had my heart broken.

Here I've gotten blind drunk.

Here I hoped a gigantic invisible hole would swallow me up when she got off with that jerk.

Here I almost pissed myself laughing. At the Xmas 2003 party, Ryan forced 23 brussel sprouts into his mouth purely to win a £10 HMV voucher. Imagine a cross between The Grinch and a Syrian hamster.

Here I've met complete strangers who can also appreciate the music. Skanking until the early hours when the music stops.

Here I know the DJs by name.

Here there isn't an unfriendly person in the whole place.

Here is my most regular night out, from 2002. It's still the best.

If you haven't been yet, what the hell are you waiting for??!

Yatheesan's flute arangetram

Last week at DB, the workload started to pile up. Thursday and Friday were the worst. Carla asked me to help her, so I did. I had to call a lot of managers as they didn’t reply to our e mails. Then Su (my manager) called me, telling me to send some spreadsheets that I hadn’t even started. So it was quite a stressful end to the week.

A few live cash games at Gutshot helped on Friday evening. There’s a great atmosphere there and a lot of friendly people. Though some of them got annoyed with me. Especially on the £25-£50PL table, where I put 4 players all in with my 8s-5s, got trip 8’s and took down a £200 pot.

On Saturday I had to help with decorations at Beck Theatre. It was Yatheesan’s flute arangetram. For those of you who don’t know, an Arangetram is a traditional South-Asian graduation ceremony where the teacher (Guru) acknowledges that the student is ready to perform. I did mine back in 2001, also at Beck Theatre.

There are certain variations of songs that are played. The 1st piece is called the Varnam. The more common Keerthanams follow with a Pancharathinam. The most important piece, however, is the Ragam Thanam Pallavi. This demonstrates the student’s ability in all aspects.

Yatheesan played this part so well. What really impressed me was that he combined 2 ragams in 1 line for most of the piece. There was no interval, so we went straight on from the RTP to the lighter devotional songs that are traditionally played in the 2nd half of the concert. It concluded with a Thillana, Thirrupugal and finally, the Mangalam. WELL DONE YAZ!!

It was nice to catch up with old friends from Tamil school. I hadn’t seen some of them for several years. Back then we used to be naïve, clueless teenagers, preparing for 4th yr/GCSE’s or what have you. Now, we’re naïve, even more clueless adults, about to start another year at university.

lyrics to 'last thoughts before suicide'

Look at the fresh cut meadow.
Gentle breeze around.
She says I'm far too late, and
Leaves without a sound.

Seaside town in all its glory.
Faded. Derelict.
The warmth of sand beneath your feet.
And rides out on the pier.

Lying in the hillside grass,
Just with her at night.
City spread out all below us.
Glistening and trite.

Visions of prom night. Slide shows.
Fast forward rewind.
Fade out now to black then white.
Nothing in my mind.

Must I die here? Must I go?
Cut down in my prime?
Final grit, valedixit.
Eyes close one last time.

gothika

Ah, last night. Last night turned out to be a quirky mix of goth and 80s. Think Marilyn Manson and David Bowie's Magic Dance. Predictably the clientele are wearing an inordinate amount of black clothing, which is amusing because of the hot weather. Interested to find a lot of people here I haven't seen in a long time, like Scott from the This Night mockumentary and others from Ster. Will and Guy were also here, and Ben's friend Lawrence. We got takeout (when don't we?) at the end and walked back to Ben's new place, which is amazing. Blagged Dan's bed as he hadn't moved in yet. My eyes would not stay open, as interesting as it was listening to Lawrence have phone sex for almost an hour.

new heights

Christ it's a steep walk up to Ben's new place. He now lives in a second floor apartment a stone's throw from the main campus. Inside it's really spacious and pleasant. There are a few minor details like being unable to fully turn off the hot tap in the bathroom, half of one wall in the bathroom missing, etc. but overall it's sweet, and actually cheaper than his place in Headingley. I am sure this will be a great benefit for putting appearances in at the Dock, Fab and Cockpit. (You remember the days when we lugged traffic cones back from Cockpit to Headingley, Bob? Mission.) Would have also set a new record time for London-Leeds but there was an accident just past Sheffield. If I had driven at my normal pace through the area of the accident, I would have done the journey in 2.5 hours. Tonight we will be going to the Wendy House at the student union for rock and metal delights.
