angry journal

Ok, for a long time people have been asking me what kind of girlfriend I want, as if I could magically lay down concrete rules and criteria and it will just happen. So in a suitably sardonic response to all the airheads out there, this is exactly what I want to find in a girl:

1. She should have an IQ bigger than her chest size.
2. She should find Big Brother and all the pond life brained people on it repulsive.
3. She should look amazing.
4. She should have conservative tendencies - absolutely no idealists clinging to the failed crumbling edifice of Labour.
5. She should have an appreciation of individual freedom and space, and so not feel the need to phone me every 5 minutes to check where I am or what I'm doing.
6. She should like reading, red wine, music, (no pop, garage, rap, RnB thanks) motorsport, and travelling.
7. She should have all the qualities one would hope for in a girlfriend: honesty, trustworthiness, intellect, sense, etc. etc.

almost there

This month I would be almost $1,000 up at poker, but sadly the real figure is closer to $550. Why? I'm convinced I ran into a scammer on Will Hill, so watch out if you play there Bob - his handle is 'Mopsy.'

I found nut straight, 9 high, on the turn, and pushed all my chips in - as did another player who had an identical hand. No problems there. Since I'd only just sat down there was about $400 or so in the pot at this time, with action on 'Mopsy.' The fucking muppet then calls my all-in bet with two pair, makes a full house on the river, and scoops the whole pot - now $600. I almost threw my computer out the window in disgust.

Three hands later, board was 993KJ - one player had the underfull, another had hit the overfull on the turn, and 'Mopsy' called on the turn with a straight flush draw and rivered everyone else with his one out - Jd. He retired from the $1/2 table with about $1,400. It's fucking sick.

he's a Gunner forever / KJ is my bogey hand.

I always remained optimistic that Henry would stay. And so he has signed for another 4 years, after we lost in the CL final. Damn it! For 75 minutes we were leading and they had to fucking equalise with an offside goal and then score the winner. Well its over now and the World Cup is fast approaching.

I'm gona have to apply for a temping job to boost my bankroll. I've managed to save almost half of the money I won from Gutshot in the last 2 weeks. After the tournament win I started playing in cash games like £25 and £25-£50 PL holdem, winning about 300 more. So it had been going great until yesterday.

Went to Gutshot, made yet another holdem final table appearance, but finished 7th and the top 5 got paid. Then it was the freeroll, which I ended up buying in with £10; most players bought in with £20-30. Going well with 2 tables left (90 entered), I managed to steal some blinds and my stack was respectable. The top 10 would go through to Monday's super satellite for a seat in the WSOP; each seat is worth £200. 11th would get £130.

I got KsQs and went all in on the big blind. Guy after me calls with K/J. He hit his Jack, and I went out in 13th. Only 2 away from a cash prize. Aaargh! I did well to get that far but was gutted to be eliminated so close to the final table. You can't win everything Bob.

21st century technology

Pretty amazing what you can do while you're waiting for a flight, huh? 11 days of being shacked up with two old ladies, niiiiice. They have a combined ground speed of about 0.25 mph so I should theoretically just be able to run off if they start dragging me around charity shops...

another suitcase in another hall

You know I've given this a lot of thought: seeing that I'm flying out to Toronto on Sunday, it might not be a bad idea to get off my butt and start packing my bags.

we have a holdem winner!!!!!

Finally I made it to the final table of a Gutshot holdem tournament. Not only that.......I WON THE WHOLE THING!!! 85 poker fanatics entered a £30 buy in with 1 rebuy, i.e. £60 in total. I was very lucky at times; at one point I was short stack on my table. How things turned around. I went all in with Q/7 and A/J called. I got my 7's on the flop, and that was the start of my resurgence. To cut a long story short, I reached the final table on my lucky seat number 7. Managed to get pocket kings twice, the 2nd of which eliminated 2 people. It ended up with 3 players. My chip stack was 3 times the next highest stack, and we decided to stop play.

2nd and 3rd place split with £813 each. 1st prize to me........£1000!!! WOW. Was so chuffed, it took a while to settle in. The tournament lasted from 8pm till 2am. Very tiring. I managed to stay awake after so many glasses of coke, and joined in the cash games. Played until 10am, then the card room closed. I'm now in the Gutshot internet cafe, waiting for a £20 tourney to start at 2pm. The guys around me keep complaining of the bad beats they get from their excursions online. Stop moaning!! That's poker.

Exams update: done 4; Math Methods, FOREX, Prob/Stats and Economic theory. Got calculus/linear algebra next Wednesday, my last one. Wish all you students the best of luck over the next month. It'll all be over before you know it!!

disparate collection of thoughts part 1

Tired. So very tired.

The unshakable feeling that being generous and benevolent will always backfire sooner or later.

You can learn about moral truths in textbooks and libraries. Or you can step out into real life and experience the anti-vacuum.

If you're not part of the problem, you shouldn't be part of the solution. Know your place, stick to it, and retain a little humility if that's possible.

Once I thought I met a bird and we would soar, but she flew away.

I don't know many six-syllable words other than phantasmagorical.

Events of the last week or so have taught me yet again that the only constant thing in the world is change. And yet people generally don't respond well to change; some degree of stability is nice.

Nobody has character flaws or weaknesses anymore. We are all victims of something. Alcoholism, retail fucking therapy (best excuse to hide a weakness ever) and more. We are now sleepwalking into a mass production of crybabys with nobody willing to take responsibility.

These are tired eyes.

who will you vote for on Thursday?

Thatcher was one of the few politicians who had the balls (figuratively) to stand up to the ever-increasing power of the unions.

If you do a little history research you will find that there was a widespread feeling of disempowerment in London in the 70s amid the dock strikes, all thanks to a Labour government. History repeating itself perhaps? Except this time it's the RMT with their bloody 3 day weeks and demands of £40,000 a year salaries for tube drivers. And, of course, since Blair lacks even the gumption to tame his own party rebels, he will never be able to control the union ringmasters, let alone more powerful 'friends' like Bush.

It's all gone a bit messy. Labour are Tories in red clothing, and are alienating their left-wing supporters. The Tories are distancing themselves from their right-wing past and are trying to move towards centre ground ... so christ only knows what the Lib Dem's political spectrum consists of.
